We discussed " The Baby Blues" in class which is a period of sadness and irritability for the mother of the child. It usually occurs within 70% of mothers, which is a fairly high statistic. I am completely new to this term as I have never known a mother to give birth and to experience this.
Postpartom depression begins within 4 weeks of giving birth and may linger for weeks or even months after giving birth. There are 2 other forms of depression found due to childbirth which are
1) Psychological factors
a-Will i be a good mother?
b-Marital problems
c-The child may be sick or unwanted
d- general life changes
2) Biological factors
a- FAS ( fetal alcohol syndrome)
-the baby develops developmental lags as well as underdeveloped facial features.
b-Smoking- which brings on a full range of issues such as
- miscarriage
-pregnancy complications
-SIDS( sudden infant death syndrome)
- early vulnerabilities
-Learning issues once they get older.
Woman have a lot of control over how their babies will develop in the future. Acting carelessly momentarily can and will affect the health of an unborn child. Often times woman need to remember that even the tiniest things can have a huge impact on their lives and that if they choose to get pregnant and keep the baby, they need to be responsibly for it not only when it is present, but while it is in the womb as well.
