Critical Thinking

Principles of Critical Thinking

  1.  Be Skeptical: Do not accept any unsupported opinion as though it were fact. Be respectful.
  2. Examine definition of terms: abortion, look at the way terms are used.
  3. Examine assumption of arguments- If assumptions aren't true then the outcomes aren't.
  4. Be cautious in drawing conclusions from evidence.
  5. Consider alternative interpretations of research evidence.
  6. Consider kinds of evidence- opinion often isn't as worthy as evidence.
  7. Do not oversimplify- homosexuality is simplified by saying there is a 'homo' gene or its a case of environment.
  8. Do not overgeneralize- When one woman has an abortion and deals with it easy, it doesn't necessarily mean all women will handle it like that one did.
